Abril Barba is Associate Director at BODEN. In this role, she leads brand communications strategy and program development for the agency’s clients. She specializes in media relations, brand activations, event management, digital content development, executive training, and issues management.
Previously, Abril served as Account Director at global public relations firm Burson Cohn & Wolfe, designing and implementing communication programs for Florida, U.S. and U.S. Hispanic-focused clients across a variety of industries including consumer products, retail, food and beverage, travel and tourism, education, banking, and non-profit. For 15 years, she led communication efforts for the U.S. expansion of IKEA, throughout the grand opening phase of all four Florida stores and 20+ others across the country. She also supported global corporate communication programs for Bacardi Limited, Walgreens, and Coca-Cola, and managed U.S. Hispanic in-culture initiatives for clients including AVON, Bank of America, Ford, Gatorade, United Healthcare, and the U.S. Navy.
Abril has significant experience in event management, from organizing press conferences and media receptions to red carpet arrivals at major award shows. She has coordinated on-site press room activities for organizations including The Recording Academy, The Latin Recording Academy, Cartier, Club Med, JW Marriott and Perry Ellis International.
Abril graduated Cum Laude from the University of Miami and holds a Bachelor of Science in Communication, specializing in Broadcast Journalism with a double major in Spanish. During her college education, Abril worked as an anchor/reporter for UMTV Cable Tap in Coral Gables, FL and completed an exclusive summer internship program at Univision Communications, where she produced segments for top-rated Noticiero Univision. She lives in Miami with her husband and two children, and is passionate about travel, reading/writing, music, photography, and interior design.
